Abstract
This essay exposes a lecture of the Great Commentary on De Anima of Aristotle wrote by Abu-l-Walid Ibn Rushd, known in the latin world as Averroes. Our essay exposes the notion of “material intellect” o “intelectual potentia” to critique the modern notion of subject. For this the essay shows that “material intellect” is deined by Averroes as an entity that “is not a body, neither a potentia in a body” ofering the noesis as a potentia´s doctrine where intellect shows as a strange substance that is unique, separated and eternal; quite diferent as particular men that only because of their imaginal composition they might actualize such potentia. That´s why the essay talks about the phantological character of this noesis and the possibility of an averroistic critique of western modernity.
